Hume Completes Best & Worst Buildings in Toronto Series

Christopher Hume, trusted voice of Toronto Real Estate for The Toronto Star recently completed his segment on Toronto’s “Best” and “Worst” 5 Buildings constructed in the 21st Century in Toronto.  Both lists are interesting – and we don’t ENTIRELY agree.

CHRISTOPHER HUME’S WORST BUILDINGS:

5. Four Seasons Center for Performing Arts (Video Link)

Hume calls the building a “lost opportunity” and doesn’t scream “Opera House” and expected much much more.  I think this building was chosen because it was more of a “let down” rather than it being a particularly ugly building.

The Four Seasons Centre for Performing Arts looks drab in Hume’s video, but this image looks awesome!

4. Dundas Square (Video Link)

3. Ryerson Ted Roger’s School of Management (Video Link)

Hume asks “have you ever seen such a dog’s breakfast of a building?” Ouch.

“Dog’s breakfast of a building” – The third worst building in Toronto, according to Hume

2. BeBloor Condo (Video Link)

Hume states, if this building was built in the 1970’s he would understand – but since it was built in the 2000’s it’s inexcusable.  We agree, it’s not the prettiest building around.

1. Trump Tower (Video Link)

Hume names the pending Trump Tower as the ugliest building in Toronto.  Now, we understand that Trump isn’t the most popular guy around right now, but come on – really? Looking east along Adelaide – we love the look of the Trump Tower and it will be instantly recognizable among a number of famous buildings such as Scotia Plaza and First Canadian Place (BMO Tower).

Trump Tower – is this the worst Building in Toronto built in the 21st Century? We don’t think so!

CHRISTOPHER HUME’S BEST BUILDINGS:

5. Pure Spirit Condos (Video Link)

Hume loves the “pointed podium” at the base.  It really does set it apart from the other “Glass towers” in the city.

4. George Brown Centre for Hospitality and Culinary Arts (Video Link)

Hume loves the contrast between the two buildings

3. Royal Ontario Museum (Video Link)

Controversial building that you either love or hate.  We at TalkCondo LOVE it, as do our purchasers at Exhibit!

2. Maple Leaf Square (Video Link)

Hume loves the new “Community” created at and around the Air Canada Center and wonders what it would be like in this area if the Leafs ever won anything.

1. Ritz Carlton & RBC Dexia Buildings (Video Link)

We LOVE LOVE LOVE the Ritz.  It’s the first building that catches our driving up the Gardiner heading into the city (other than the CN Tower, of course).  It’s elegant and instantly recognizable.

Ritz Carlton – Best building in Toronto? We tend to agree.

There you have it – Hume’s top 5.  Agree? Disagree? Let us know your thoughts!
