Here is How the Toronto Subway Might Look in 2035

A user on Reddit by the name of Rantwiki has imagined what the Toronto Subway map will look like by 2035 if the all the current projects by TTC are finished.

While Transit in Toronto gets a bad rep, the map and current projects highlight that there is a number of projects that are currently on the go.

The map helps visualize a lot of the priority projects that have been outlined by the City of Toronto and include:

  • Spadina Subway Extension – Currently under construction that will stretch to Vaughan Metropolitan Centre and will cut through York University)
  • Eglinton LRT Crosstown Phase 1 – Currently under construction
  • Eglinton LRT Crosstown Phase 2 – Will eventually connect to Pearson International Airport
  • Downtown Relief Line – identified as a high priority and recently received $150 million funding.  The map shows the plan to eventually stretch this to Don Mills, cutting through the Science Centre stop on the Eglinton line which has been identified as an Intermodal station in various documentation by Metrolinx
  • Finch LRT – scheduled to begin construction in 2017 and to be completed by 2021
  • Sheppard East LRT – scheduled to begin construction in 2021
  • Scarborough Subway Extension – from Don Mills to Morningside
  • Richmond Hill Subway – received $55 million in funding at the same time as the Downtown Relief Line

The user also notes that there are a number of transit projects that are being discussed that were not included and they include:

  • SmartTrack – still under consultation
  • Jane LRT – no updates in 3 years
  • Finch LRT to the Airport – a recent proposal but no further details at this time
  • Downtown Relief Line Phase 2 – which is expected to stretch to Dundas West
  • Waterfront LRT – the project is being re-designed with input from WaterfronToronto

We believe that transit ultimately dictates which neighbourhoods are worth investing in.  Savvy investors are already investing in tomorrow’s transit hubs and by looking at all the future plans we believe there are a number of areas that are primed for growth.

The Spadina Subway Extension has given rise to the brand new Vaughan Metropolitan Centre, where projects such as Cosmos Condos and the Met Condos have sold out in record time earlier this year.

Identifying the Science Centre along the Eglinton Subway line as a mobility hub (and the future plans indicate that the Relief Line will eventually cut through this station) make projects such as Sonic Condos a project that smart investors are jumping on in an area that looks set to grow in a big way.

Along the Downtown Relief Line, projects around the Unilever site (which is an area that we believe is about to become Toronto’s second major Financial District) such as River City Phase 3 look like great buys.  We recently wrote an article that highlight condo projects around the proposed stations of the Relief Line.
