Living in a Mississauga Condo and Working in Toronto

The city of Mississauga offers their over 750,000 residents the luxury of the amenities a large city like Toronto offers. Dining, entertainment and world-class attractions aren’t lost on its citizens. In the event where Toronto has something exciting to offer, it is only a short drive or GO train ride away. The bottom line is the residents of Mississauga are not being subject to the same hustle and bustle as those who live close by in the 4th largest city in North America. It’s city living – without a lot of the negatives that come with living in the city.

The Allure of Mississauga

While many of the city’s population commutes to Toronto for work or other neighbouring communities, Mississauga’s economy is growing. It is home to several theatres, attractions and is home to Ontario’s largest shopping mall. So while its residents may be a longer distance from the allure that Toronto provides, they are never far away from premium shopping, dining, and entertainment.
While Mississauga also provides many of the entertaining features that Toronto provides, its residents can better appreciate their close proximity to the countryside. Many parks, rivers, ski hills, wilderness golf courses, and serene wide outdoor spaces are only a very short drive away. The great mix of country and city life has made Mississauga very appealing to many of its residents and has led to an increase in demand for condos.

Commuting to Toronto from Mississauga

With the city’s commitment to creating a more efficient and easier access to Toronto, Mississauga neighbourhoods are set to gain a higher Transit Score. Studies done in North America continue to demonstrate how properties adjacent to better transit options, experience enhanced value.

For those commuting from their Mississauga condo there are a few transit options they can take. While some methods are deemed as unreliable or heavily congested, the residents of Mississauga are witnessing transit upgrades that are making the daily commute easier.

Commuting by car

By car, a trip to the downtown core of Toronto will last roughly 30-35 minutes. While during rush hour that estimation can become much lengthier. The two major highways leading to Toronto are the 403 (that links up to the 401, north of Toronto) and the QEW (linking up to the Gardiner Expressway to Toronto’s downtown core.)

Improvements

The city of Toronto is always looking for means of easing congestion along these heavy traffic routes. Recently, both federal and provincial governments have agreed to invest $65 million in improving a QEW at Dixie road, a high-traffic interchange in Mississauga.

3a Taking Public Transit to work

Mississauga Transit, Mainway and Go Transit are the main Public Transit options in the city that connect to Toronto. Many have come to appreciate the simple use of the Presto card that serves as an electronic fare payment card that connects all the major public transit options in Mississauga and Toronto.

The Go Train connects thousands of commuters from Mississauga directly to Toronto’s Union Station every morning. It’s both a quiet and efficient means of travel and is perfect for those who can’t stand sitting in traffic.

Newer Improvements

LRT Project

Mississauga is getting its first LRT (light rail transit) service that connects Brampton to the Port Credit Subway Station. The project will feature 22 stops connecting over 20 kilometres of Hurontario Street.

Exclusive Bus Lanes

GO Transit in conjunction with the City of Mississauga, are building new exclusive bus lanes on roads along Hwy. 403 connecting thousands of Mississauga citizens to North Toronto faster and more efficiently.

The Transitway project will be a high-efficiency transit corridor running east-west across Mississauga. The Transitway will support all-station stop and extensive express bus service for thousands of riders per day, making it faster and easier for you to travel to, from and through Mississauga and the GTHA.
